UW Welcomes the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Harry Potter

When the world of Harry Potter and muggles combine, a fandom rejoices in the best way possible, with an exhibit of all things Potter related. At UW Library, the exhibit ‘Muggles & Magic: Harry Potter @ the Libraries ‘ allows people of all ages to enjoy and experience all this Harry Potter through the fandom, film, games, literature, scholarship, and more.

Husky Quidditch Team. On Suzzallo’s ground floor, there are student-created displays that link to the Daily Prophet, Ministry of Magic, and even the Marauder’s Map.

Within each of these displays you will see a variety of Harry Potter games, toys, and artifacts on loan from the UW staff and students. The Harry Potter fandom have come together with each display showcasing a local burlesque tribute to Harry Potter (even He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is included!), the University of Washington Quidditch team, fan art, fan fiction, and even tattoos.

Running June 8 to October 1, the ‘Muggles & Magic: Harry Potter @ the Libraries’ brings together the Harry Potter fandom whether they live in the area or are from out of town. On one side of the Suzzallo exhibit is a board inviting visitors to write their first encounter with the stores of J.K. Rowling’s heroic young wizard.

Since the first book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ was published in 1997, Harry Potter and his group of friends have collected fans far and wide. Everyone knows his story and every day more children and adults get to know his name. His story not only inspired kids to read, but has also sparked controversy and attempts at censorship. Even academic studies have been taken very seriously of the series. Exhibits such as ‘Muggles & Magic’ bring together one and all to experience and enjoy the fandom in such a fun way. And who doesn’t want to believe that their owl and letter will one day show up in the post.
