From boutique shopping in Fremont, to power walking around Green Lake, and family visits to the Woodland Park Zoo, there is plenty to do in North Seattle. Seattle Oasis Vacation Rentals offers two unique options to stay on the north side of Seattle, minutes away from downtown.

For Seattle locals, Green Lake is a favorite destination for food, shopping, fitness, and duck watching. Turtles, rabbits, herons and eagles are also frequent visitors to the area. Seattle Oasis Vacation Rentals offers a charming one bedroom bungalow close to the walking trail that wraps around the 2.8 mile (4.5 km) freshwater lake. The lakeside trail is also great for rollerblading or cycling (there are plenty of bike rental options around here). In the summer months, Green Lake Boathouse offers standup paddle board, kayak, and other personal watercraft rentals.

To see wildlife from around the world, visit Woodland Park Zoo, one of the top destinations in Seattle for locals and tourists. The 92 acre park (open year-round except for Christmas) is home to more than 1,200 animals, representing more than 300 species. The Zoo’s summer outdoor concert series, ZooTunes, welcomes some of the world’s biggest musical acts to Seattle. In the winter, WildLights combines captures the holiday spirit for families and animals to enjoy in harmony. For another truly Seattle holiday lights experience, be sure to visit Candy Cane Lane in nearby Ravenna.

While staying in North Seattle, be sure to also visit Phinny Ridge and Wallingford, each of these popular neighborhoods is filled with unique restaurants, galleries, taverns, and other hot spots. Our Green Lake bungalow is a favorite stop for parents wanting to hit all of these neighborhoods while visiting children at the University of Washington (less than 2 miles away).

If you prefer to stay in the heart of one of Seattle’s most unique neighborhoods, reserve a few days at our 3-bedroom, 3-bath Ship Canal Oasis in the Fremont neighborhood. Fremont is filled with quirky shopping boutiques, upscale restaurants, dive bars, snack shacks, and art galleries. For a truly one of a kind photo op, hunt down The Fremont Troll, a 2000 lb. monster that lives under the Aurora Bridge. Head to the southern tip of the area (technically Wallingford at this point) to find iconic Gas Works Park overlooking Lake Union and the Seattle Skyline.

Getting to downtown Seattle, Bellevue, and Sea-Tac Airport from North Seattle is relatively simple, just expect traffic congestion at peak travel times. Aurora Avenue (State Route 99) will whisk you into downtown straight into the new tunnel project that opened in early 2019 (tolls are expected to start later in 2019). Toll-free Interstate 5 is the best bet to get back to Sea-Tac Airport (roughly 16-18 miles south of Fremont and Green Lake respectively). Bellevue is less than 10 miles away via the 520 floating toll bridge; Interstate 90 is another quick, toll-free option from downtown.

Don’t be surprised to see airplanes landing on the water in Lake Union; contact Kenmore Air to arrange a memorable aerial tour of the city. You can also catch several waterboat tours of Lake Union on the docks near the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI). Lake Union boat tours are one of the best ways to see Lake Union’s famous floating houses, including the one Tom Hanks’ character called home in Sleepless in Seattle. Right underneath the Ship Canal Bridge that carries Interstate 5 across the water, you’ll float past glass artist Dale Chihuly’s famous boat house. While the boat house is otherwise closed to the public, you can see his mind blowing glass sculptures up close at Chihuly Art & Glass in Seattle Center by the Space Needle.
