Oklahoma at the 5th Avenue

On Friday, February 3, one of the most beloved Broadway musicals of all time will open at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre.  Oklahoma! by Rogers and Hammerstein, originally opened on Broadway in 1943 and follows the love story of a cowboy and a farm girl in Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the century.   It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1955, and a Pulitzer Prize in 1944.

Seattle is lucky to have the 5th Avenue Theatre, and all of the Broadway touring companies the presence of the venerable theatre brings to town.  Tickets for Oklahoma! are available now, and the show runs February 3-March 4.  As an extra bonus, after the professional version of Oklahoma!, local kids will produce their own version of Olahoma, with local teens doing the on-stage work, plus all the production behind the scenes!  The Seattle Youth Symphony will play the score, and all this will be done under the direction of theatre professionals.  Show dates are March 16-17, 2012.  Whichever you choose, Broadway professionals or the local students, Oklahoma! is sure to be a "can’t miss" show at the 5th Avenue.
