Jack Block Park

Seattle is a city of diverse landscapes, amazing museums, and iconic landmarks. Whether you travel here for the rain, cultural experiences or opportunities to dive into the beauty of nature, it’s a city that doesn’t disappoint. No matter what draws you in, Seattle is a city that promises a great view. While you’re here, make sure to carve out time on the itinerary for a stop at Jack Block Park. This West Seattle destination is not only a fun stop for the entire family but one that is guaranteed to thrill when it comes to ideal vantage points.

Adventure Awaits

Located at 2130 Harbor Avenue SW, Jack Block Park covers 15 acres of land near Terminal 5 in the Port of Seattle. While the area was once the home of shipbuilding companies and wood treatment plants, it was re-established in 1998 as a city park after it was taken over under the terms of the U.S. Environmental Act. Jack Block Park’s public beach was opened in 2011 after extensive cleanup efforts and remains a beautiful destination for visitors to soak up the sun today. Beyond the beach, Jack Block Park features a wonderful play area for kids, walking paths that line the shore as well as a pier. While the pier makes for a great stroll, the observation tower at the end of the pier is by far the shining highlight of Jack Block Park. Rising 45 feet into the sky, the observation tower provides a place for visitors to take in the scenery with a bird’s eye view over Elliott Bay. From the top, guests are treated to views of the downtown Seattle skyline, Terminal 5 ship activity, and Mt. Rainier on those days when the rain stays away.

Transition and Innovation

While Jack Block Park is a beautiful and scenic destination, its story of transition perfectly reflects the resilience of the city of Seattle where change, innovation, and growth are key to success. From shipyard to a public park, this destination has found a way to transform into something more beautiful and useful than ever. While the park was originally named Terminal 5 Park, 2011 saw yet another change with it’s renaming to honor Port Commissioner Jack Block.
