Fun Adventures in Downtown Seattle’s Waterfront

Locals and visitors agree, the Downtown Seattle Waterfront is a must-see for all ages. From delicious eating, splendid shopping, and adventurous site seeing, the waterfront is sure to be the highlight of your day. Here are some attractions and activities to help you in your waterfront adventures.

Seattle Aquarium
The perfect family attraction, the Seattle Aquarium is located at Pier 59 and is filled with species from the Puget Sound and Pacific Ocean. This aquarium allows you to see each animal from all points of view. There are a number of exhibits, but don’t miss the underwater dome with daily feedings at 1:30pm and be sure to take the little ones to explore sea life in a Puget Sound tide pool. You’ll also get to take a virtual trip to see a Pacific coral reef and learn about Orca whales. The Seattle Aquarium will fill the whole family with knowledge of the ocean while keeping you entertained.

Olympic Sculpture Park
A newer attraction within Seattle, the Olympic Sculpture Park is true to its name. This park features large sculptures and art fixtures of all kinds that can be seen throughout its zigzagging paths. An ideal way to introduce your children to the fine arts, the Olympic Sculpture Park is located east to the Space Needle and west of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound. This park is a part of the Seattle Art Museum.

The Seattle Great Wheel
Located on Pier 57, the Seattle Great Wheel is the newest waterfront attraction. This Ferris wheel features closed, climate-controlled cars that can each sit up to six adults comfortably. It takes you on a 15- to 20-minute ride. While riding, settle in and enjoy views of downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, and West Seattle.

Restaurants on the Waterfront
There are many restaurants on the waterfront and almost all of them offer fresh seafood that come from local fisheries. Here is a small list of the restaurants locals and visitors are raving about.

Elliott’s Oyster House
Resting on Pier 56, Elliott’s offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Here you’ll find delicious local seafood, with a focus on local oysters. They take pride in their long-standing relationships with local oyster growers and are known for serving the freshest oysters around. Be sure to make a reservation to obtain optimal seating within this establishment.

Ivar’s Acres of Clams
Ivar’s has been around since 1938. This restaurant provides scenic views of the harbor and mountains while you enjoy their incredible seafood. A favorite Seattle eatery, Ivar’s offers lunch and dinner and is located on Pier 54.

Aqua by El Gaucho
This jewel is located on pier 70 and offers seafood that is prepared to perfection. Slapped on the grill, the seafood menu of this restaurant is one to remember. Aqua by El Gaucho was formerly Waterfront Seafood Grill on Pier 70 and just claimed the State Wine Commission’s 2015 Restaurant of the Year.
