Visiting Seattle is always treat and discovering its many neighborhoods gives even more places to explore. Just north of downtown Seattle is South Lake Union. This lakefront community is easily accessible from your downtown Seattle vacation rental home by foot, bus, light rail, and even streetcar.

donuts South Lake Union, or SLU as it is affectionately called, was once full of warehouses and light industrial buildings. Now it’s home to Seattle’s biotech community and Amazon’s new campus. It’s become a hot bed of new restaurants, lofts, the beautiful South Lake Union Park, and a brand new light rail system. Seattle Met Magazines named South Lake Union, “Where you’ll want to be in 2016.”

South Lake Union Hosts a variety of eateries to satisfy your hunger during your outing excursion. For breakfast, stop by Top Pot Doughnuts and choose from over 40 varieties of doughnuts. Or settle in for a comfortable breakfast at the Row House Café.

Lunch, dinner, and happy hour options are plentiful. Check out this interactive map of South Lake to choose from the variety of restaurants, bars, and pubs. The relatively new South Lake corridor extends on both sides of Westlake Avenue on the west, and Fairview Avenue on the east and from Lake Union Park on the north to the far side of Denny Way on the south.

South Lake Union features a range of activities from which to choose. The Center for Wooden Boats allows you to rent anything from a rowboat to a kayak to a sailboat, offering you a lovely day out on the water. The Museum of History & Industry is close by, providing a stunning collection of the city’s maritime heritage and history. A 360-degree periscope is located at this museum providing you with an outstanding view of the city. You can also check out Virginia V, a genuine wood-hull ship with a fully operational, over 100 year-old steam engine.

Not into museums? That’s ok. The Lake Union Park provides paths, a wading pool, and access to the waterfront to explore.
