Mother’s Day in Seattle
Ah, Mother’s Day. The day set aside for everyone to honor the women who have raised you – mom, grandma, auntie, it doesn’t matter if she gave birth to you or not. In our house, it was the day dad woke us up early (and I’m sure mom too, telling us to be quiet) to destroy mom’s kitchen with breakfast that only we liked to eat….and (mostly) not spilling all of it going upstairs to serve it to her in bed. I always liked picking out pretty flowers and seeing how much she loved them (sometimes pretend, sometimes not). Every family does it a little differently, but if you are looking for that perfect place to take mom on Mother’s Day that combines the best of relaxation, pampering, and scenery, you don’t need to look much further than the many options available in our great city. Especially downtown! While our dynamic corner of the earth is great for a visit any time of year, it’s a spectacular option on Mother’s Day as the city comes to life with opportunities to show mom how much you love her in style.
Book a Brunch Cruise
Seattle is often best appreciated from the water, and what could be better than giving your mom a chance to take in the sights while enjoying something savory too? Waterways Cruises and Events hosts a Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise that departs from Lake Union at 11:00 am and comes complete with a private table, decadent buffet with Pacific Northwest fare highlighted as well as a rose for every mother onboard. Champagne is readily available as well as coffee and tea depending on mom’s preference. Take time to admire the skyline and sip the afternoon away when you decide to celebrate mom by taking to the waves.
Take a Mother’s Day Train Ride
If your mom is someone who prefers time on land as opposed to heading out to sea, opt for a Mother’s Day train ride organized by the Northwest Railway Museum. Mom rides for free when you bring her on this 70-minute experience across the beautiful Seattle countryside. Scenic views and a leisurely excursion provide the relaxed atmosphere she craves with the quality family-time she deserves. Bring the entire family along for this fun Mother’s Day ride.
Give Her the Gift of Laughter
Take a humorous angle on celebrating Mother’s Day by treating your mom to an improv comedy show at the Gum Wall in Pike Place Market. Hosted by Unexpected Productions, moms local to or visiting Seattle are invited to attend this laughter-filled event for only $5 on Mother’s Day. Innovative humor and a fun and comfortable setting make this a show your mom won’t want to miss out on when you’re in town. The show runs from May 11th through May 12th from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm. General admission tickets range from $12 to $14.
