History and Culture

Spanning an area of 74 acres, Seattle Center is one of the best things to do in Seattle Washington. Was originally built for the 1962 World’s Fair. It’s located just north of Belltown, in the Uptown neighborhood, and includes a variety of attractions. Why not start by checking out the International Fountain, located right in the middle of the campus, which the whole family is sure to enjoy? It’s a modernist water sculpture, with water spurts programmed to create a show set to music from around the world. And of course, you can’t miss a trip up to one of the best things to do in Seattle Washington, the Space Needle (as long as you’re not afraid of heights!), with its great view of the entire city. You can even enjoy a meal at the revolving restaurant!

In Good Weather or Bad

If you’re ready to dig a little deeper into the area’s history and culture, stop by the outdoor Mural Amphitheatre to marvel at the mosaic masterpiece created for the World’s Fair by Paul Horiuchi. Or, if the weather’s a bit inclement, visit one of the Center’s many museums. There are so many to choose from! If you’re traveling with children, check out the Children’s Museum or the Pacific Science Center. Older kids (and adults) will also get a kick out of the Museum of Pop Culture. And of course, it’s always fun and impressive to watch the skateboarders do their stuff at the Seattle Center Skate Park.

Fun Things to Do Near Seattle: Theatre, Sports, and Festivals

Seattle Center is also home to world-class venues for both theatre and sports an plenty of other fun things to do near Seattle. Seattle Center Armory hosts both the Seattle Shakespeare Company and the Book-it Repertory Theatre. Meanwhile, KeyArena is the current home court of the WNBA Seattle Storm, as well as the Seattle University Redhawks men’s basketball team. Memorial Stadium, which predates the World’s Fair, is home to Seattle Reign FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.

And then there’s the festivals! There are so many great ones to choose from in the Pacific Northwest, and Seattle Center is the hub of it all.
